United States, Ne... "OVERVIEW 7th Layer Software Systems was formed around the development of the H/TV software. H/TV is a software product that allows a computer network to be used as an audio/video delivery system. H/TV was designed with broadband network providers in mind. Telephone and cable companies, ISPs and large organizations are currently establishing local area networks (i.e. Intranets) within neighborhoods and industrial parks and offering permanent network connectivity. The technologies being deployed include wireless, fiber, and DSL. The providers typically offer services to their subscribers such as e-mail, Internet access, domain name services, and web site hosting. With H/TV, the providers can now offer their subscribers exciting new revenue-generating services such as video on demand and media broadcasting. The subscribers will connect via PCs or other new network computing devices. H/TV extends the connection to include televisions, amplifiers, and other standard A/V gear. MARKETING The company plans to target two market segments; institutional network managers and commercial network providers. Institutional: Corporations, Government Agencies and Universities There are tens of thousands of large and mid-sized companies, government agencies and universities with high-speed computer networks. H/TV gives the network manager a turnkey system to provide their users with a broad range of applications, including live broadcast of meetings and presentations, or training programs. Universities could offer users live or on-demand broadcast of classes, lectures, or student created content. Commercial Network Providers As companies like MediaOne deploy high-speed network access to their customers, there will be a surge in demand for applications that take advantage of the faster speeds. H/TV is such an application. H/TV gives ISP’s the ability to offer high-quality video services to their subscribers as an alternative to traditional public and private television systems. The subscriber would have access to powerful video-on-demand services and live broadcasts (IP multicasts) via the network provider’s server. The network provider or any authorized subscriber could also generate their own “live” content into the system with the H/TV broadcast module, redefining the concept of local access public television. H/TV is a significant revenue producing service for the local network provider. Using the H/TV billing and reporting system, the network provider can easily track subscriber usage, and bill accordingly.
