Info MD was founded to build and develop the first comprehensive, proactive video drug detailing and information delivery network for the medical community. Early in the model, revenue will be generated on a pay-per-view basis from pharmaceuticals, mostly through the delivery of “drug details” or marketing and information about drugs. This is known as “detailing”. In the USA, the pharmaceutical industry spends US $15 billion per year advertising its products to the medical profession. Detailing accounts for the lion’s share of this spend, around 45 per cent of the total . In the United States, Pharmaceuticals employ about 84,000 sales representatives, or drug detailers; a number that has more than doubled since 1996. About half (43%) of traditional detail visits result in no contact with doctors and more than three-fourths (87%) of details last less than two minutes. It is estimated that it costs a drug manufacturer spends over $250 to present this two minute drug detail! Consequently, pharmaceutical companies’ very significant expenditure in sales reps is not yielding acceptable returns any longer. E-Detailing, the ability to deliver drug details through an electronic medium, is rapidly evolving as a marketing model for the pharmaceuticals. E-Detailing reduces costs, increases quality, increases control and provides greater reach than current human sales force methods. The Info MD approach will further improve on the e-Detailing model because it is proactively “pushed” directly to the physician, and does not require the physician to change behavior, or to find the content somewhere on the Internet. This means more physicians will adopt the method, and view the content increasing the impressions the drug companies can make on the physician community.
