United States, Pe... Entrepreneur "The growing use of the so-called ""designer drug"" Ecstasy has taken the United States and the world be storm over the past few years. Much research has been done, and continues to be done, on the effects of ""e"" on the human brain in the short term and long term. There is evidence to suggest that certain measures can be taken by users in order to reduce or even eliminate the damaging effects. These include nutritional supplements that prevent the neurotoxic effect of dopamine on serotonin receptors. Many Ecstasy users do not know how this drug is affecting their brains, nor do they know what can be done to potentially reduce these negative effects. Our company intends to package several supplements along with an informational pamphlet to educate users and provide them with a two to three day supply of nutritional supplements, all of which are legal and able to be purchased over the counter at any pharmacy. These include, but are not limited to 5-htp supplements, the complete anti-oxidant group, and St. Johns Wort. The 5-htp supplements assist the brain in building serotonin, which is significantly depleted after Ecstasy usage. This is the cause for post-Ecstasy depression, or what some e users refer to as Suicide Tuesdays. Anti-oxidants prevent the oxidization process that results from Ecstasy use and may result in neurological damage. It is suggested that Prozac, a Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor, or SSRI, prevents the neurotoxic reaction of Dopamine and MAO that may cause long-term damage to the serotonin reuptake transporters. Since Prozac is a prescription drug, and St. Johns Wort is believed to act as a natural non-prescription SSRI, we decided to include this in our product. A not-for-profit organization called ""Dancesafe"" is a DEA sanctioned organization that conducts research and testing on Ecstasy. Their website contains extensive information on the drug, and they permit anyone to quote their site freely. Research information from their site will be included both on our website and in our product packages. Our target consumer is anyone who uses the drug Ecstasy, which ranges from teenagers to young professionals. Our marketing will be done largely over the web, and at parties, clubs, and raves. We intend to sell our product both over the internet and at actual social functions where ""e"" is being used. We hope to contract with venue and club owners to allow us to set up stations outside the club selling our product. In cases where this cannot be arranged, we intend to pass out fliers for our website. The alarming demand and widespread usage of e, combined with the ignorance and mystery behind Ecstasy provide an excellent opportunity for an organization to both educate and possibly help users prevent damage. While our organization does not encourage or condone drug abuse, we believe that users will abuse Ecstasy regardless of our presence, and our intention is only to make their experience as safe and educated as possible. One of the biggest concerns of e users is the content of their pills. Several deaths have been reported in the US and abroad as a result of individuals taking pills that they thought were Ecstasy, and were sold to them as Ecstasy, but were actually other substances. A quick and relatively simply on-the-spot test could have prevented these unnecessary deaths. Danc...
